THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PARENT’S INVOLVEMENT IN THEIR CHILDREN’S ACADEMICS

 

Parents who take an active part in their children’s education are offering the support their kiddies need to see success in their academics. But determining how to get involved can be tedious, especially for parents who are also juggling a full- full-time

 

These are simple ways for parents to play their part in their kiddies’ or children’s academics. 

 

 

 

BE PRESENT IN YOUR CHILDREN’S SCHOOL WHEN NEEDED

 

 Parents who make it possible to be present around their children’s school are showing their kiddies that they care about their academics. This doesn’t mean that busy parents have to spend all their free time in their children’s school! Classrooms are opened up in the morning and in the afternoon to get involved with their wards and the teacher, so parents can choose the time that works with their schedules.  Attend parent conferences or meetings and open houses; contribute your time at home to their home works or assignments

SHOW INTEREST IN YOUR CHILDREN’S WORK

 

Parents who are genuinely interested in their children’s academics are in a good position to give support or find outside help if they notice a child is struggling academically. The parents also make connections with their children as they partake in their excitement over their successes and help them work through failures. 

 

 

 

KEEP A POSITIVE MIND TOWARDS YOUR CHILDREN’S ACADEMICS

 

 Parents might think that scolding a child is the right way to handle kiddies who dislike school or don’t want to do their schoolwork. Still, parents who keep a positive mind about their children’s academics are more likely to pass that good outlook onto their kiddies. 

 

Make school involvement activities positive, sitting with your children while doing schoolwork or letting them know it's okay to fail but must work harder to pass very well next time. And more importantly, always support them, no matter what!

 

 Teenage children, in particular, are still forming their studies and passions towards academics therefore, do what you can to support them and help them up as they work through struggles. 

 

 

 

KEEP COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR WARDS

 

Communication is pivotal for your child’s successful academic outcome.  For example, reading your children’s school daily journals as well as transferring notes to your child’s school teacher about what’s going on in their life is important

 

 Keeping open lines of communication between families will help strengthen connections and the ability to understand children’s moods or actions at school

 

 

 

PRIORITIZE PARENTS/TEACHERS’ MEETING 

 

From work to parenthood and everything in between, we understand how busy life can get. But, if you can help it, try to make time for parent’s/teachers’ conferences/meetings because they are very important 

 

Get the most out of what is being discussed in the meeting by taking note of important effects the school teacher shares. This will help inform and ameliorate or improve how you would continue to get involved in your child’s academics and help him or her gets better

 

 

 

VOLUNTEER AT YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL

 

Depending on your schedule, spending time at your child’s school can be a bit tough. Still, if an occasion comes up where you can help, take it! Let your child’s school teacher know when you’re free, for how long, and get agitated. Whether you’re helping them read a storybook during their reading week, or helping out with other school events, your child will notice and appreciate your effort 

 

 

 

READ TO AND WITH YOUR CHILDREN

 

This proves that beforehand in life, reading to your child every day has a direct positive productive impact on their reading and cognitive domain later in life.  You can take turns reading before bed, in the auto (car) in the home study room or library, pick whichever works best for your family.

While preceptors play a huge part in the social and academic development of children, studies have overwhelmingly shown how important parents’ involvement in their children’s academics is at school, and especially at home because every parent wants what’s best for their children. And by getting further involved in their academics, parents can directly impact their child’s success in school and beyond.
